Through its activities it has aimed to reduce the barriers to and increase the resources for each individuals’ development from an early age.
Because of this, gender equality has been a consistent theme that cuts across all of AÇEV’s programs. In pursuit of this value, AÇEV conducts programs that intervene in the discrimination of girls and boys, and that promote equal division of responsibilities between parents.
It has worked towards this goal for 25 years in many regions of Turkey, conducting programs that focus on literacy and empowerment for women, and support groups for mothers and fathers. In addition to these programs, AÇEV is actively engaged in advocacy and communication efforts on these issues.
Related to these efforts, AÇEV began to increasingly provide trainings for organizations about gender equality and women’s empowerment. Recognizing a need for a concentrated effort, these efforts were eventually consolidated and relaunched, resulting in EQUALITY MATTERS.
